Its easy to say we are going to do something. Its easy to make promises you don’t intend to keep. How many times have you kicked the ball down the road, hoping the topic would never come up again. When a child asks you to play, we say, “maybe tomorrow.” When a significant other says they want some alone time, we say, “sounds good. I’ll see what I can do.” It has to stop. We need to be honest and direct. We need to let people know how we are feeling.  We might have legitimate reasons for being unable to commit to things, but if we want to keep our lives and our relationships happy, we need to communicate what’s going on to the people that it matters to. We do this with our hopes and dreams too. How many times have you thought about an idea and said, “maybe tomorrow. I don’t have time right now.”  How many times have we wanted to produce the art in our minds, but decided that everything else is more important.  We need to prioritize ourselves into our schedule. Our health and self worth is way more valuable than we give ourselves credit for.  We cant work and meet our responsibilities if we aren’t healthy in our own body and mind. Take some time tonight to meditate on your life goal.  Breathe and rest. Put time aside for you. It’s the most important thing you can do. And that’s all I have for now.

People get hurt… easily as it turns out… most people it seems have the ability to look the other way. They don’t feel the repercussions of some of there decisions as it pertains to others. The human race is very selfish.  I’m not going to be talking about physical hurt today.  I’m going to talk about the emotional type.  You see, selfishness comes in many forms.  I am a very emotional being it’s a gift, and a curse, that I was born with. I try to please people at my own expense. I have been hurt and used more times than I can count.  I’m pretty sure all of us have been to some extent.  It took a long time for me to figure out how to stand up for myself.  How to tell people no.  I was so afraid of hurting others, that I lost myself in the process.  One day I looked in the mirror, and I couldn’t recognize the person I’d become.  I had spent years trying to become what others wanted and expected of my.  I had changed who I was to please others.  When I finally spoke out.  When I finally stood up and walked out, I discovered that I’d hurt more people in that moment than I had ever tried to save from hurt before.  The universe wants us to pursue our own enlightenment. It doesn’t want us to change who we are, it wants us to revel in who we are.  It wants us to tell people to take a hike when they try to change us.  People will get hurt when we do this, we are selfish, after all and like to think only of our own wants… but if they would only step back and admire the person before them… the person being true to themselves… they would realize you are doing them a favor.  If someone doesn’t like you for you, they wont like you no matter what you do to change. Be proud of who you are. Stay strong in your convictions. Be the phoenix you were meant to be. Be You… and that’s all I have for now.

The future is a scary place.  Anything that is unknown to us is always scary. Human’s are planners.  The fear of what will happen in the future often stifles the actions we take in the present. Out of fear, we don’t take risks.  Out of fear we put our dreams on hold.  Out of fear we settle.  We miss opportunities because of this. There are many ways to make money.  Everyday, I drive by neighborhoods that have miles and miles of large expensive houses for sale, brand new, nonetheless. Millions and millions of dollars worth of homes that have new tenants everyday. Maybe all of these people are simply in massive amounts of debt, but I choose to believe their success is the culprit. I imagine what choice they made to get to that point. See that mansion over there, the one with the tennis court and fountain, that guy is a neurosurgeon that has saved hundreds of people.  That one there with the Maserati parked out front, that guy is an astronaut.  Is it likely, no.  now, I know our success is not measure by what the Joneses have.  I’m not the type that would want a gigantic home, but it does make me think about success and what that word means to each person individually. Some of the most successful people in history died penniless and alone. So where am I going with this… well, I want you to think about the hard questions.  I want you to ask yourself, what’s the worst that can happen. If that worse case scenario doesn’t harm you or your family, and the best case scenario finds yourself happier and more fulfilled, then why not take the chance.  I will continue to drive this point home, we only have one life to live.  We only have one legacy to leave behind. Take that step everyday to get one move closer to fulfilling your dream. I have faith the Universe will reward you if you do.

We all have a rebellious nature… It’s not a bad thing.  A rebel goes against the grain. They do things most consider wrong… think about that… during prohibition, someone who drank beer was a rebel. During the 40’s and 50’s, if you were dancing and shaking your hips, you were being rebellious. It seems each generation finds its own way of rebelling against the previous one. Rebellion is how we evolve as people. It’s how we discover who we are and what we want as opposed to what everyone else wants us to be and expects us to be. Rebellion keeps us honest. It is what we need as people… I do find it funny that each political party in today’s two party system thinks they are rebellious.  They think they are going against the social norms, when they are both just following the status quo.  The true rebels are those who fight against injustice… the true rebels are those who help their common man… the true rebels are the bipartisan people who don’t care about the politics of anything, but want to help you be better regardless of who you voted for in the last election. In today’s society being a rebel means fighting against the tyrannical practices that are taking place on both sides of the aisle. It means fighting the injustices that are oozing forth from capitol hill… I’m not talking about hating Trump and I’m not talking about hating Obama, I’m talking about hating the current system, a system George Washington himself warned about during his farewell address… a system that robs us of our public liberty… a system that demonizes rebellion… a system that does not represent me… It’s about time for another American Revolution. It’s time to elevate the fundamental ideas our country was founded upon. It’s time for a Rebel Revival.

We are all on a journey. Though each of our Journeys are as individual as our character, they are intertwined in ways beyond our own imagination. The decisions we make today have the capability of affecting complete strangers in the future. If there is one thing I have learned on my journey, a journey that has been full of unexpected twists and turns, its that we have to make the hard decisions to better our lives today. I was once given good advice from my mother, she told me some things in our lives can affect us like a sliver. They will cause pain in our lives, and that pain will be throbbing and it will swell up and fester.  All we have to do is pull the sliver.  My sliver lasted for years. It poisoned my body and my soul, until one day I yanked it out of my life. It hurt. The pain was excruciating for the brief time it took to remove the foreign body, but the relief beyond that was unbelievable. I have a second chance in life… I can walk again. The throbbing bane to my existence is gone. I have begun to rectify the bad decisions I made after returning home from Iraq, but I am learning more and more everyday. I am excited about my future. I want you to be excited about your future. I want you to pull the slivers festering in your lives. Our lives could be rocked by an explosion at any time. It may come in the form of a car accident or a heart attack. We might survive and we might not. What will your legacy be. How will you be remembered.  Lets work today at making our legacy bulletproof.

Unscripted S1 E1

I don’t know about you, but I came to a place in my life where I had resigned myself to the idea that my hopes and dreams would not be fulfilled. I decided surviving was enough for me; that fulfilling my responsibilities was all that mattered.

It’s not true.

Fulfilling our responsibilities is important, but we should never give up on trying to be what we dream of being. I started a podcast because I saw a need for people to be told it’s alright to better yourself. It’s alright to take chances at bettering your life if it doesn’t put others at risk.

I’m thirty four years old and I still want to be a Rockstar when I grow up. There’s nothing wrong with aspiring to greatness. All we have at the end of the day is our legacy. Our accomplishments are all that matter… and I’m not talking about our retirement points, our pension and our 401k… Those are important, but when we die people are going to remember us by our accomplishments, whether it be the skyscraper we helped build downtown, the book we wrote or the album we recorded. Nobody is going to remember how many pension points we had, but they will remember those amazing magic tricks you used to perform, or the small business you helped build.

It’s time to take back our lives. It’s time we stop following the herd and start following our heart. I hope this podcast ignites a fire. I hope you will start taking steps in your life towards fulfilling your dreams… We can do great things. We just have to believe in ourselves and summon our inner bad-ass.

Until next time, choose your path wisely…
